39-year-old Charles Hersel was arrested Wednesday at a mall in Thousand Oaks, California after allegedly paying a teenager $31 to spit in his face during a police sting investigation.

Before you say “I know several teenagers that would do that for free!” or “That does sound kind of sick, but I’m not sure it’s illegal,” several also claimed he offered them cash to urinate and defecate on him, which sounds much more serious (and gross).

When interior designer Ronald Hunt of Los Angeles appeared on a home improvement television show, he probably thought it would be great for business, as the medium would spread the word about his services far and wide.

However, it turns out Hunt probably should have reconsidered his appearance , since appearing on the show apparently blew the cover off his claim of disability.  It turned out that an employee of the insurance company who had been paying his claim recognized his name and turned him in.

Oddly, Hunt apparently had little reason to claim disability since, even though he collected almost $150,000 in benefits over 3 years, over the same period, Hunt made around $400,000 from his interior design work.

Keep on Truckin’

A man who struck three people while driving past a fender-bender on Interstate 95 drove for more than a mile with one of the victims lodged in his windshield, according to police.

Christopher Swiridowsky, 30, of Providence, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident as well as violating bail, for which he was ordered to stay locked up.

The three men were on the side of the interstate checking for damage when Swiridowsky allegedly struck them. Jose Flores, 24, became trapped in Swiridowsky’s windshield and remained lodged there for 1 1/2 miles, police said.

Swiridowsky stopped only because someone was following him, police said. He fled on foot and was later found hiding in his home, police said.

Shining a light on the darker side of the human condition, here’s a story that one  can’t help but wax philosophical about.

A convicted sex offender in Tulsa, Oklahoma burned to death when he locked himself in a cargo van, and set the van on fire.

Tulsa deputies and state parole officers showed up to serve a warrant at the house of Johnnie Joe Hobbs, 47.

After finding the house empty, the squad peered into a cargo van that sat in the cluttered yard about 3 p.m. Hobbs, who was in the van, reached out and slammed the door shut, Bowman said.

He then poured gasoline inside the van and ignited it.

Probably shouldn’t have drawn attention to himself.

A man who was wanted by US authorities on fraud charges was apprehended after making a number of posts on social networking site Facebook.

In the posts, Maxi Sopo, originally from Cameroon, boasted of living it up in the resorts in Cancun, Mexico, complete with photos.

US officials say Mr Sopo and an associate falsely obtained more than $200,000 in credit from banks.

Sopo was found after adding a former Justice Department official as a friend on Facebook, who had no idea at the time that Sopo was on the run.

More Marijuana madness

A woman who was robbed by two men was arrested after reporting the Marijuana plants she was growing as stolen.

Detective Sgt. Randy F. Pfau said that the woman reported that she was robbed by two men, one who had a baseball bat. The other demanded the marijuana plants.

The woman, who according to Pfau, did not possess a medical marijuana card, claimed the drug was for personal use. She was arrested for manufacturing and delivering marijuana.

Good fences make good neighbors.

A naked man in Martin County, Florida broke into a neighbor’s yard and dove into his swimming pool while covered in feces, according to police.

21 year-old Robert Stark Higgins, who lived nearby, was charged with burglary, disorderly conduct, and misdemeanor theft.

A resident in the 9000 block of Southeast Nero Street told deputies he heard Higgins crash through the screen of his pool and take a splash about 9 p.m. Saturday.

Higgins reportedly took a towel and fled.

Police tracked him down using police dogs. Higgins told police he had been drinking, which explains everything.

And, presumably, meat loaf. Student’s newspaper article raises Cain.

A student newspaper article on the school’s cafeteria vendor has caused has prompted her school’s administration to delay the printing of the article and instruct the newspaper staff to clear all future issues with them before publication.

In the article, the student, Julia Ostmann quoted a passage from the company’s website pronouncing it’s Christian affiliation, and stating that it’s mission was to “serve God” as well as providing food service.

Principal Sue Vaughn stated that the article was one of the factors in delaying the the publication.

“We’re in no way trying to censor anything,” Vaughn said Thursday. “We were given the copy to look at after it was sent to the printer. There were errors in it that need to be corrected, and then the printing will be continued.”

Apparently seven officers weren’t enough to subdue him.

Tickets issued by police officers in the town of Jericho, Arkansas had long become an item of contention. Many of the townspeople had claimed that the police force had gone from simply overzealous to downright unethical in their quest to issue tickets.

So when fire chief Don Payne got two tickets in one day he went to court about the matter, and was pretty upset.

At some point, the disagreement turned into an argument, and at some point the argument developed into a scuffle, and all seven of the town’s police officers were engaged. Finally, one of the police officers pulled out a gun and shot the chief in the back.

An Illinois woman was rushed to a hospital with burns after her car ignited when she used a match to check the level of the gas in a gas can.

Nifty.

Well, at least she had the (sense?) to push the car clear of the gas pumps, so we’ll give her an ‘E’ for Effort.
